[Xmas Day 5] A Secret Tool That May Help You Stay In Your Lane For The New Year
On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me..
Hello, friends of Yours,Yan
đOn the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me..
A PRODUCTIVITY TOOL FOR FOCUSÂ
Itâs that time of the year again. Not just for holidays but also we are 2 weeks before we bid farewell to another year of 2022.Â
My bet is, most of us, specifically the above 35 (đ€Ł) are getting jaded about setting new year goals or perhaps even care less about them.Â
After 2.5 years of crazy worldâs events and never-ending wave after wave of tragic news, most of us just want toÂ
Live in peace and harmony with self, family and friends.Â
Be around good people, colleagues and bosses.
Have a roof over their head and a decent job that pays the bills.
Not falling sick to seasonal illnesses a.k.a. âagingâ well.
Have more leisure time and resources to âtravel the worldâ at least twice a year.Â
These goals are very common and thereâs nothing wrong with that.Â
We all know that the key to attaining them, isnât so much in setting them, but to have a consistent routine to execute the activities required, in helping us move the needle an inch closer to our end goals.Â
As someone who has been hustling in the online entrepreneurship space for about 20 years, I confessed that my focus muscle has waned with time.
In my early 20s, I was the queen of focus! Whatever I set my mind to, I usually get it done in time and with excellence.Â
But now this isnât happening and I am not sure if itâs due to age or just the sudden boom in apps and social media over the last 5 years that caused this. I got way more distracted than in my 20s, I swear if I get paid just 5-cents per distraction I placed my attention, I will be a millionaire by now!Â
In those last 5 years, I went to-and-fro with my relationship with social media (mainly the big 4, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.) I had them on my desktop AND my mobile, which means I am constantly distracted.Â
Distraction drains our mental energy, not to mentioned not able to be fully in the present moment to do the tasks on hand.Â
I have not even mentioned the other apps that can take our mental energy away such as gaming, shopping, fitness and wellness apps. And now, because of the pandemic, some of us are even âforcedâ to download apps for the government and healthcare system to track and monitor us, which means we canât helped but be unknowingly be pulled into using more apps and our mobile phones even more, with time. (Thatâs how our behavior change at play).
Heck, you might even be reading this newsletter post today via the Substack mobile app! đ
My relationship with social media led me to go from being super active on it to deleting it cold turkey and repeat again.Â
And I noticed the significant impacts it has made on my life with and without them.
I also noticed how so many of my friends, family and industry colleagues had relied on social media to stay connected, so much so that when I deleted my social media app (or disabled my account), we also got less connected.
It saddened me , and even ignited a rebel in me for a while, to only want to maintain relationships with people who prefer to meet in person or at least initiate making a call to reach out to me, instead of relying on text-based conversation or social media to stay connected.Â
This is still an ongoing experience for me.Â
When I finally found some inner peace and balance with these social media accounts, I reinstated them but not have them installed on my mobile phone.Â
This means I can still access my Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube on my desktop. But the anxiety of being distracted by the feed when I get on the page still crept in.Â
Until I found this amazing tool a few years ago.Â
ENTER NEWS FEED ERADICATOR. (NFE)
I canât remember how I found this but this amazing browser app has âsavedâ my life and relationship with Facebook in particular.Â
It allowed me to enter Facebook and access the private groups I want to, without being distracted or constantly bombarded by the feeds and sponsored ads!Â
I also activated it on my LinkedIn, as the Feeds can also distracted me.Â
I did not choose to activate it on YouTube, but this depends on my emotional state.
How NFE works
Instead of showing you feeds and sponsored ads, you will see Quotes.Â
These quotes are self-generated by the tool.
Quotes rotate each time you refresh the page.Â
Another amazing feature of the NFE is that you can also add your personal quotes or affirmations or mantras you like!Â
So if you are trying to âreprogramâ your mind, this is an excellent tool.Â
Best part is this is entirely free!
Though the developer welcomes tips to help him keep this tool running.Â
My FeedbackÂ
After having this installed for more than 2 years, I truly must say this has been one of the best productivity hack tool for me. I felt that I have been able to harness the power of my focus, which was once my superpower in my early 20s, without staying âout of touchâ with the major social media pages.Â
I do wish that they have something like this for the mobile version but for now, I am grateful that such a tool exist.Â
I hope this has been so valuable for you to help you one step closer to your 2023 âgoalsâ and/or life endeavors.Â
I might just be be a superpower focuser by end of 2023!Â

đ QUOTE FOR THOUGHT
âThat's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.â - Steve Jobs
