"Music is All Around Us, All You Have To Do Is...Listen"
Highlight to a personal favorite show of all time
Hello friends,
Welcome to another post from The 3Min Club, where each week (or so), you’ll receive 3Ms (movement, mindfulness, mantra) from me to do in 3 minutes. No matter where we are right now, taking the right actions is the key to live better positive lives.
Of late, I am playing my $150 guitar again. I can only hit a couple of major chords and get in a few strumming patterns. I won’t call myself Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix. But playing a musical instrument in a decent manner has always been one of my bucket lists. The guitar always has found its way to pull my heartstrings, as it opens my ears to the different tune each string on the frets makes.
What I absolutely enjoy the most is when the synchronicity between the right chord and right strumming pattern matches with what my heart and mind envision it to sound like. That moment is an orgasmic high like watching Freddie Highmore in August Rush performing the August Rhapsody!
By the way, as a heads up, this renewed awareness will influence our mindfulness practices for the next few weeks, working with various sound frequencies.
I always believe that music has a way to heal and connect people, even if we speak different languages or come from different cultures. And in today’s divisive climate, I think this is a valuable practice for us, no matter where we are.
So when you are ready, let us all get in tune today.
Hope you will enjoy today’s 3Ms in 3 minutes.
Yours,
Yan
For each M, set a timer for 1 minute each.
For the First Minute,
1) Movement - ELBOW SIDE BEND WITH BENT KNEES
This is a follow-up to last week’s move of Hug-Knees-Open-Chest with Shoulder Circles. If you missed it, check out the post for the movement.
For the next Second Minute
2) Mantra - “I HOLD THE KEYS TO AN AMAZING LIFE I DESIRE”
Start a timer for 1-minute. Repeat the above statement, either silently in your head or out loud.
Do this with slow and deep breaths or whatever feels comfortable for you. Repeat until 1 minute is up.
For the 3rd Minute
3) Mindfulness - Tuning into the C4 (261Hz)
We are going to kickstart a series of mindfulness practices using simple sound notes. Today’s mindfulness practice is tickling our senses to the C4 note.
(Note: This is not connected to any spiritual or religious practice.)
Before we begin, you would need a tuner of some sort. I use the SoundCorset app available on both the Apple App Store and GooglePlay. You can choose any other sound apps.
To begin, set your phone on Airplane mode to avoid any incoming calls or notifications
Tap into your Soundcorset app.
Select Tuner and tap on the tuning fork symbol near the top right side.
Select C and set it to 4. That’s C4 for you.
Now set a timer for 1 minute. Sit comfortably and just listen intently to the C4 note.
You may take in deep belly breaths or walk around while tuning into C4.
Note: If you find this frequency disturbing, stop the practice.Once the timer is up, reflect briefly on how that feels to your ears and other sensations.
What feelings might surface?
What songs might come into your mind even?
Don’t forget to turn off the Airplane mode on your mobile, if you desire to do so.
