[Poll] Pivoting Is Not A Step Back But A Newfound Step.
Pretty please, may you help me to retitle this newsletter?
Hello, friends of Yours,Yan
May I be utterly transparent, vulnerable and authentic with you?
I have been deep in thoughts, playing with life since the start of 2023. And you know how it is like when one is deep with being in the present moment.
As a creative soul being, learning to find my voice, footing and space in this bizarre world, it’s been weird yet surreal to say the least. Most days, I just want to give up, like completely lift my arm(pits) high up and say, "“F*** this world, this whatever, and stop creating, stop writing, stop living.”
The artist’s tension of that constant tug-of-war between wanting to freely create with the “right” mind versus analyzing what the statistics are revealing with the “left” mind.
Yes, that happened to me in more ways I can count, and probably still am.
In the last 6 months, I have been experimenting the “starving” artist’s life. I had discovered, uncovered and recovered so much that I would love to share through this newsletter for the reader community of Yours, Yan.
And now as I stepped further into my 16th year of cancer-free living, something has shifted and changed in me again.
I decided to stop hiding behind all of my “shoulda-woulda-coulda” and just create whatever that comes to my heart at the spur in moment.
I don’t want to announce my plans out-loud as I feel it might “jinx” it.
Call it pivots, call it spirals, call it twists-and-turns. If anything I have learned now is this
Pivoting is not a step back but a newfound step.
Never be afraid to pivot. Never be afraid to reinvent yourself. - Yan H.
A while ago, Linda Caroll wrote about the one mistake she made as a writer for her popular newsletter — the name of your newsletter can make or break the likelihood of converting new audiences into subscribers. The name of her newsletter, entitled, xo Linda, does almost nothing to reveal much about who she is to potential new subscribers, unless she is Oprah Winfrey or published a best-seller modern day poets like Yung Pueblo.
That revelation led her to write a A Giant Substack Tutorial For New, Curious and Struggling Writers. (You have to bookmark this if you are serious in growing your newsletter. And it is really a massive tutorial. :P)
It made me realized that even prolific writers whom I looked up to also made “mistakes” and “struggles” such as these, and it inspired me on my artist’s journey.
EVOLVING ONWARD AND FORWARD AS YAN v5.0 in 2023
With the deepest revelation, I like to rename this newsletter to reflect more of the ever-evolving version of Yan version.5.0 as I call myself.
Yan v5.0 is revealing more of who I am through sharing authentic stories of my ups and downs, pivots and spirals, twists and turns, to continue to inspire, share and build like-minded community.
I know I’m not alone in healing, in wanting to feel healthier with more vitality, joy and inner peace daily and most of all, in having soul-deep connections and conversations about navigating life.
In this evolved newsletter, the content will have pillars around
cultivating healthy resiliency practices
my journey with podcast guesting (YES I HAVE BEEN PODCASTING!)
learning about self-deconditioning through Human Design.
evolving as a woman approaching 39 / 40 and beyond.
most of all , wanting to have fun creating and collaborating with fellow creators.
and who knows what else might pop up along like the way.
The soul (sole) intention is to be unapologetically authentic with my soul and to show up each day, each week with Stories, Letters and Resilience Practices that I have cultivated in my 16-years cancer-free life, accidental entrepreneur’s life and creator’s life.
CAN YOU HELP ME TO RENAME THIS NEWSLETTER?
As I realize nobody, or some of you may not know me yet, the newsletter name Yours, Yan, makes no sense. With that, as I endeavored, in 2023, to walk the talk towards living out my authenticity, resiliency and kindness.
With that said, if you can, I love to invite you to help me vote and choose which names resonate with you.

“living out my authenticity”- I like this line!
I understand it can be difficult to stay motivated when life is constantly changing around us, and it's natural to feel uncertain about the future of our writing. You are not alone. Change can be daunting, but it's also an opportunity to grow and adapt. Embrace the shifts in your life and writing, and allow yourself to pivot and explore new paths. Remember that success is not always a straight line, and it's okay to make mistakes and course-correct along the way. Have trust in yourself and keep writing. Believe in your unique voice and perspective, and don't be afraid to pivot when it becomes necessary. Your words have the power to inspire, connect, and impact others, even in the midst of change. So keep writing, keep changing, and keep pivoting. The journey may not always be easy, but have faith that you have what it takes to succeed.
